Acne does not only occur in the face. It also occurs on other parts of the body like the shoulders, upper arms and even the back. Having acne on these body parts in women can be quite discomforting because it restricts the type of clothes they can wear. Contrary to popular beliefs, back acne is common in both men and women. It usually occurs at the onset of puberty and may last till adulthood. Before you try to get natural acne treatments, you should first of all, find out the causes.

Causes of Back Acne

1. As with facial acne, back acne can also be caused as a result of over-secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands. This sebum then blocks the hair follicles and skin pores. When this happens, bacteria, dead cells and other waste materials get stuck in these areas. This results in the inflammation of the skin tissues leading to acne outbreaks.

2. Fluctuation in the body hormones especially in women also causes this type of acne. These fluctuations usually occur mostly during pregnancy and menstruation.

3. Back acne can also be hereditary. If any or both of your parents have it, it is very likely that you will also have it.

4. Allergic reactions for example, Allergies to dairy products like milk, cheese etc is also a contributing factor.

5. Other external factors like stress, cosmetic products can also indirectly cause acne on the back.

This type of acne occurs in forms like pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, pustules and even cystic acne. Like the facial acne, there are various natural acne treatments for treating back acne.
